Chasing the Extraordinary

How a Quiet Morning in Japan Became One of Our Celebrated Stories

When people think about destination sessions, they often imagine the scenery first.

Mountain ranges, charming streets, iconic landmarks. But what makes photographing overseas so special has never been the destination itself.

It's what the destination allows people to become.

When we're away from home, something changes. The rush of everyday life gives way to curiosity. Couples stop thinking about how they're standing or whether they're smiling enough, and instead become immersed in the experience of discovering somewhere new together.

That is where the magic begins.

One of our sessions, photographed in Japan, would later receive international recognition as one of Junebug Weddings' 2026 Best of the Best Destination Photos.

We had spent months carefully piecing together a route that reflected the kind of story we wanted to tell. Not the landmarks everyone knows, but the spaces in between— places where time seemed to slow down.

The journey itself became just as memorable as the photographs and films we created. We drove from one location to the next with no urgency, watching the landscapes change beyond the windows, embracing the cold that reminded us we were far from home. Between each location, conversations flowed, and as evening settled, we found ourselves sat around a teppanyaki pan, sharing stories and laughter, quietly wishing the day wouldn't end.

Looking back, that's what makes destination sessions so meaningful to us. They're never just about creating beautiful imagery in beautiful places. They're about the experience of exploring somewhere new together, where every road travelled, every conversation shared, and every quiet moment becomes inseparable from the memories themselves.

That's why we continue to travel.

Not in search of dramatic landscapes alone, but in search of experiences that allow stories to unfold differently than they ever could at home.

Because years from now, we hope you won't just remember where you travelled.

You'll remember how it felt to be there.

And perhaps that's the greatest gift destination sessions can offer, not simply beautiful photographs and films, but memories that become inseparable from the places where your story unfolded.
